A 70-Year Tradition of Gratitude: Giving Thanks Dinner at Neighborhood House

The scent of roasted turkey and warm pies fills the halls of Neighborhood House each November as families gather for one of our most meaningful traditions, the annual Neighborhood House Giving Thanks Dinner. On Thursday, November 20, the children, adults, and families we serve will come together with staff and volunteers to share a home-cooked holiday meal filled with connection and gratitude.
Now in its 70th year, this event continues to bring comfort and belonging to families who might not otherwise have the chance to share a Thanksgiving meal together. At a time when many are navigating higher costs and uncertainty, this dinner offers a moment to pause and simply enjoy being together, surrounded by good food and good company.
This year’s feast is made possible through the generous sponsorship of Sysco and Nicholas and Company., who are donating all the food served at the event. Their generosity ensures every guest enjoys a traditional meal with turkey, stuffing, sides, and pie, lovingly prepared and served by Neighborhood House staff and volunteers.
Together, we will celebrate the spirit of gratitude that defines our mission, nourishing families, connecting generations, and creating a place that feels like home for everyone we serve.
Give a Gift 2025: Help Make the Season Bright!

Every holiday season, Give a Gift brings joy, dignity, and connection to families at Neighborhood House. It’s a cherished tradition that reminds the children, adults, and caregivers we serve that they are cared for and valued.
With so many families facing economic uncertainty, holiday gifts can feel out of reach. Through Give a Gift, sponsors help ensure that children wake up to something special, caregivers feel appreciated, and families can celebrate together.
This year, we need sponsors for 356 children, 72 adults, and several caregiver and family food baskets. Each child or adult receives three carefully chosen gifts, valued at about $100 in total, creating a joyful and meaningful experience for every family. Companies, service groups, and organizations are also encouraged to host a group volunteer day by packing family food baskets as part of their holiday giving efforts. It is a hands-on way to support local families and share the spirit of the season together.

Join Us for Giving Tuesday!
On Tuesday, December 2, Neighborhood House will join nonprofits across the nation for Giving Tuesday, a global day of generosity that celebrates the power of community giving.
This year, your gift can make an immediate difference for the children, adults, and families who rely on Neighborhood House for affordable care, nutritious meals, and vital support services. Any amount helps, and every donation ensures that families can continue to work, learn, and thrive, regardless of their circumstances.
If you would like to take part in this special day of giving, please visit our secure donation page at this link. To celebrate the generosity of our supporters, Neighborhood House will share a special social media post on Giving Tuesday thanking all who give. Even if you donate early, your name will be included in our public thanks as part of this community effort.
Whether it is a one-time gift or a recurring donation, your support strengthens Neighborhood House and helps us continue our mission of building community through care, connection, and inclusion.
Neighborhood House has been deeply moved by the overwhelming support received from local businesses, churches, civic groups, and caring individuals during our Fierce Urgency of Now campaign. Together, our community is stepping up to help families facing food insecurity caused by the ongoing federal shutdown and loss of SNAP benefits.
Through this campaign, we aim to raise $50,000 for our Hardship Assistance Fund and collect 10,000 pounds of food for our onsite pantry. These efforts ensure families can keep working, stay nourished, and continue to build stability even during uncertain times.
The centerpiece of this effort is our Drive-Through Food Drive on Thursday, November 6, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Neighborhood House, 1050 West 500 South, Salt Lake City. All dry and canned goods are welcome, and we encourage businesses, service groups, and individuals to participate by hosting food drives, donating items, or volunteering at the event.
To see a list of needed items, make a donation, or sign up to help, visit this link or call (801) 363-4589 ext. 117. Together, we can meet the fierce urgency of now and make sure no family faces hardship alone.
