Neighborhood House: SPARK Apartments Sets New Model for Utah Child Care

Jennifer Nuttall speaking to Deanie Wimmer about the struggles of child care in Utah.

Neighborhood House is thrilled to be the provider of a critical amenity at the new SPARK Apartments in Salt Lake City—the first apartment complex in Utah to offer on-site, low-cost child care. This innovative project directly addresses the state's persistent child care crisis by merging affordable housing with high-quality, accessible early education.

Executive Director Jennifer Nuttall highlights that "Bringing those two things together truly is life-changing," particularly in Utah, where child care costs often exceed 17% of a family's income. The Neighborhood House facility at SPARK uses a sliding-scale tuition model, with care costs starting as low as $125.00 a month for low-income residents. This collaboration with Brinshore Development is already being praised as a successful blueprint for other communities seeking to improve access and affordability for working families.
