Why Your Support Matters to Single-Parent Families

At Neighborhood House, 64% of the families we serve are single-parent households. For these families, every day is a delicate balancing act of managing work, childcare, transportation, and household responsibilities on their own.

Without access to affordable, reliable care, many single parents face impossible choices: Do I miss work to stay home with my child? Can I afford after-school care this week? Where will my aging parent be safe while I’m on the job?

That’s why Neighborhood House exists. We provide full-day care for children and adults on a sliding scale, so all parents and caregivers can go to work knowing their loved ones are safe, supported, and thriving.

Your support helps lift the weight off their shoulders, giving families not just care, but opportunity, stability, and peace of mind. Donate today to help families thrive!

SOAR teens at Utah Food Bank

SOAR Summer of Service

This summer, Neighborhood House SOAR Program teenagers made a real impact in our community. From cleaning up the Jordan River Trail to serving meals to individuals experiencing homelessness at St. Vincent de Paul Dining Hall, these young leaders saw how their efforts could brighten someone’s day and create lasting change. They also sorted clothing donations at The Road Home, packed food bags at Jewish Family Services’ food pantry, and helped with classes and meals at Utah Community Action’s Head Start program.

SOAR Program Coordinator Emma Ashton shared that the teens returned from each project energized and proud of their work.

“They were so great in all of these opportunities. They really enjoyed providing leadership and setting a good example for the younger kids at Head Start. I could also see how grateful they were to help some of the people in our community who are struggling,” Emma said.

By seeing the impact of their service, the SOAR teens are learning the ‘why’ behind giving back and discovering the joy of helping others. Learn more about SOAR (Service. Opportunities. Adventures. Recreation.), and our other summer programs.

Community Partners Make Neighborhood House Summers Fun!

This season, we’ve been lucky to welcome some incredible partners who are helping our kids and teens grow, move, and thrive.

Pushing Ahead uses skateboarding to teach persistence, confidence, and self-expression. From building their own boards to landing their first tricks, our students are learning to believe in themselves. Along the way, they’re also discovering that passion and resilience can take you far.

Ballet West Academy visits our campus twice a week to bring the beauty of dance to students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience ballet. Their classes inspire creativity, discipline, and self-expression through movement.

Create Better Health Utah’s SNAP-Ed program teaches kids how to eat well, stay active, and build healthy habits for life. Each week, hands-on activities give students the chance to try new foods based on the food group they’re learning about, making nutrition fun, interactive, and delicious.

Thanks to Tent Party committee member Casey Stringham and her daughter Caroline, Cheer Club is bigger than ever! What started as a fun after-school activity has grown into a full team, and this year, the students are taking it to the next level with a special performance at Tent Party. Their energy and encouragement are contagious, and the students can’t wait to cheer for a cause!

We’re grateful for these partners who help spark joy, confidence, and new possibilities in every child.
