Before and After School Programs for Grades K-6

More than 100 children find a safe haven at Neighborhood House before and after school hours. Our programs support working parents and provide youth with a safe, supportive place to be while not in school. We transport children to and from neighboring schools, which increases attendance and reduces tardiness.

Our educational and recreational activities improve communication and social skills, foster friendships, build confidence, and enhance what they learn in school.

Our programs work to keep school age children actively engaged and interested in positive, stimulating activities, such as:

  • Art projects
  • Cooking experiences
  • Science experiments
  • “Choice” time twice a week when children choose their activity
  • Tutoring time for children in need
  • Reading time
  • Computer time
  • Friday in-house movies
  • Outdoor sports and other recreational activities

Summer Programs for Grades K-6

Our house is brimming with activity each summer! More than 145 children age 5 – 14 call Neighborhood House home during the day in the summer months. We keep them safe, active, and engaged in activities that encourage socialization, teamwork and self-confidence. And we enhance and strengthen our families and communities.

We offer three age-appropriate programs designed to expose children to a variety of experiences and opportunities they otherwise might not encounter. The goals of the programs are to help students:

  • Develop friendships
  • Work cooperatively and communicate effectively
  • Increase self-image and self-confidence
  • Support parental involvement and parenting skills

Summer School Age Program, age 5-9

Our summer activities help children build pride in their community and give them opportunities to help people in need. Our Camp Challenge encourages teamwork and positive interactions, whether the children are building a structure, completing a task, or playing an organized game. Weekly themes culminate in a week-long team-building project that develops communication and group social skills. Fun, daily team projects and service learning projects tie into the weekly theme.

  • Team-building activities
  • Theme projects
  • Outside games and activities
  • Service learning projects
  • Field trips
  • Water days
  • Nutritious breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack

S.O.A.R. (Summer Outdoor Activities & Recreation), age 10-12

Our S.O.A.R. program gives children age 10-12 a fun, safe place to be while their parents work. Activities include:

  • Camp Challenge
  • Team building
  • Daily field trips (Community service, hiking and other fun outdoor activities). Four days off-site, one day onsite
  • Camp Store (Children earn Neighborhood House dollars for participation in program activities and good behavior)

S.O.A.R. II (Summer Outdoor Activities & Recreation), age 13-14

This program builds upon the principles of S.O.A.R. I with a half-day of community service and a half-day of recreational activities and social skills development.

Neighborhood House has Utah’s longest tradition of quality, compassionate care. Everyone is welcome here, regardless of their ability to pay. Our sliding fee scale ensures every child has access to our services.
